From Disney movies to paper coffee cups: we see sirens and mermaids everywhere. Why are they so interesting and popular? Where do they come from? How have perceptions of them changed over the years? Join Professor Carolyn Whitson as she discusses the siren (and mermaid) in Ancient Middle Eastern and European art. You’ll see the mythic creatures they developed from, and how they’ve gone from being seen as good, to bad, to good again.
Join us on Tuesday, October 25 at 5pm, in the Library EcoLab room 302, 645 East 7th Street.
You can join us remotely by Zoom, too!
