Materials Delivery

At Metro State University Library our goal is to provide access to the information resources that our students, faculty, staff, and the broader community need in as convenient of a manner as possible. At the same time, it is the responsibility of the library to assure that library materials are kept secure and in a manner that protects the privacy of library users.

The following policy reflects library practices for delivering materials to our various campuses and attempts to balance concerns of privacy, security, and equity for all university members.

Criteria

For students

What we will do:

  • Hold materials at the Saint Paul campus library first floor circulation desk for pick-up
  • Note that hold time varies depending upon whether an item is a hold or an interlibrary loan
  • Mail articles upon request to students who reside outside of the seven county Metro area (Anoka, Hennepin, Ramsey, Washington, Dakota, Carver, and Scott Counties)

What we will not do:

  • Due to security and privacy concerns, we are unable to send materials to other campuses, including Midway, Minneapolis, and Brooklyn Park
  • Due to limited resources, we are unable to mail materials other than articles to students
  • Check out materials to anyone other than the requester, even if this individual has the requester’s library card
  • Mail materials to students who live within the seven county Metro area

For staff and resident faculty

What we will do:

  • Hold materials at the Saint Paul campus library first floor circulation desk for pick-up
  • Send materials to the staff or resident faculty member’s university mailbox. This includes materials from the circulating collection as well as interlibrary loans

What we will not do:

  • Mail items to home addresses
  • Check out materials for faculty or staff to students or graduate assistants on behalf of the staff or faculty member

For community faculty

What we will do:

  • Hold materials at the Saint Paul campus library first floor circulation desk for pick-up

What we will not do:

  • Send materials to the mailbox of the community faculty member’s home department
  • Mail items to home addresses
  • Check out materials for faculty or staff to students or graduate assistants on behalf of the staff or faculty member
  • Send materials to the mailbox of another staff or resident faculty member
  • For questions or special needs regarding materials delivery, please email Interlibrary Loan or Chris Gevara, 651-793-1625.

Responsibilities for library users

It is the responsibility of students, staff, and resident and community faculty members to return all library materials in the condition to which they were received by the specified due date. In most cases, library materials may be renewed. Please see the circulation policy for more information on circulation periods, policies, and fines.

Materials can be returned to the St. Paul campus, or to another Minnesota State institution. Please note that items remain on the user’s record until checked back in at the St. Paul campus library. Staff and faculty may return items via intercampus mail.

Adopted November 2011.
