Library Services for Community Members
The Metro State University Library and Learning Center welcomes visitors and community members. In a unique partnership, we share our building with the Dayton’s Bluff Branch of the Saint Paul Public Library. You are welcome to use the services and resources of both libraries.
Privileges
As non-student users, you may take advantage of many of our services, including:
- computer workstations (with card)
- check out books and other resources (with card)
- printing and photocopying (for a fee)
- reference and research assistance
- public study tables and seating
Cards
- community borrower card:
- Bring a Driver’s License or other official photo ID to the first-floor Information Commons Desk up to 30 minutes before closing.
- Fill out our form and have your picture taken. Your card will print in minutes.
- Your first card is free, any replacement cards will cost $3 (cash or check only).
- You must be at least 13 years of age to obtain a card. Application forms for persons under age 18 must be signed by a parent or legal guardian in the presence of Metro State library staff.
Computer workstations
Designated computers are available for community use on the first floor of the library. Community users are allowed two log-ins per day, each for up to one hour.
Database Access
Community users may access Metro State online databases from workstations in the library. Current license agreements do not permit off-campus access to community users. The State of Minnesota offers remote access to many online databases through Electronic Library of Minnesota (ELM).
